A Knit and Felt Bird Pincushion Design.
May is the time for many backyard birds to begin building their nests. This little bird perched atop a spool, is doing just that! A quick and easy knit and felt project with simple embellishing techniques.
The felted pincushion measures about 5-inch / 12.7 cm tall from the spool's base to the top of the bird's tail. Knitting the spool begins at the base, creating an opening to later be used for stuffing, and works upward to the top. The bird is knit separately. Once felted and stuffed, both the spool and the bird are embellished, adding whimsical detailing using simple needle felting. The bird is then attached to the spool's top. Decorative pins are the final accent to the springtime pincushion!
Skill Level: Intermediate, requires double point needle experience and knitting in the round.
